CARIÑO (Working title)
CARIÑO will address the challenges parents can face when discussing sexuality and sexual health and well-being with their children. The film will share stories and tools on how to bridge the communication gaps and strengthen social support as parents connect with other parents, youth, and health educators.
We hope our film will be able to give parents insight on the positive impact of discussing sexuality from an assets-based perspective with youth and offer tools, resources and innovative ways to help their children development a strong sense of self-worth and feel empowered in their decision-making process.
The goal of our film is to:
- To support and encourage parents to communicate with their children about sexuality and health, educational attainment and decision-making from an assets-based perspective.
We hope to accomplish this goal by:
- Highlighting how the relationship between parents and teens affects teen sexuality and sexual choices and provide parents with the tools necessary to communicate effectively.
- Encouraging communication and relationship-building between parents and educators to increase support for youth in school.
- Supporting parent-to-parent dialogue to nurture social support and community ties.
